Literacy Improvement Program

The District's Literacy Improvement Program is operated in partnership with the New York City Department of Adult and Continuing Education, and provides in-house literacy testing for offenders who do not have their high-school degree or GED.

Classes are held at the Probation Office during the school year, and focus on improving literacy and preparing for the New York State GED exam. Classes are six to nine hours over the course of the week.

Referrals to the program are made through your probation officer and are free of cost. You must be a resident of New York City.
